The Jurisprudence of the Enlightenment (18th Century)

Under this body of jurisprudence, our focal points are the Allgemeines Landrecht (ALR) of Prussia (1794) and the Austrian Allgemeines Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch (ABGB, 1811) as well as contemporary English case law and scholarship such as Blackstone’s Commentaries on the Laws of England. A key figure in this body of jurisprudence is Franz von Zeiller (1751–1828), the 'father' of the Austrian Civil Code who was heavily influenced by Kant's writings. Field Trips to Germany

We plan to undertake the bulk of the work on this body of jurisprudence in 2024–2025. But Felicitas has already been busy collecting relevant materials during her field trips in June 2024 to the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory in Frankfurt and the Berlin State Library. Felicitas has reflected on these experiences in this blogpost.
